Brake fluid has many unique features in a brake system; one of those features is that it absorbs moisture. Why is that important? Moisture left alone in a system during cold winter months can freeze, and once the weather warms up again, it will boil, causing your brake pedal to fade. 

By absorbing the moisture into itself, the brake fluid dissipates the moisture, reducing the chances of brake failure. Moisture in the system left unchecked can lead to premature part failure, internal rust, and corrosion of the brake lines. Most manufacturers will recommend a brake fluid exchange every 30,000 miles to keep the brakes operating at their highest level.
